Studio Building: Pt 11

To the left is the vocal booth which is beside the control room. Maybe it'll be useful for amps too. Anyway, finally it has some flooring down, I just need to sort out the skirting board and it will be close to finished and ready to use. Apart from the small things that need done inside in the control room, there's finally some faster progress going on outside with the Live Room. The trench foundation is now dug out, filled with concrete to 90cm depth and has dried enough to build on. There's been a run of good weather recently so a start has been made on the block work. It needs to contain the sound of a full band, so the cavity wall is 21 inches (53cm) thick. I'll need to do a good job of treating the room acoustically too on the inside, but that's the subject of a later blog. Below, some photos of the story so far.

Electro Harmonix Big Muff II (Deluxe)

No blog would be complete without something to satisfy the pedal geek. This month the newest addition is the Electro Harmonix Big Muff II (Bass Deluxe), and the reason why I had to have it is because of the "Blend" control. The Bass deluxe has this, and to my knowledge the normal Big Muff for guitar does not. It's become part of my acoustic guitar sound because the signal can be blended in parallel with the DI signal of the guitar. So that results in a lot of tonal control over the sound, as well as adding more sustain, which is nearly always lacking in acoustic guitars that've been DI'd.
