Tom Petty is to me the very purest representation of Rock & Roll.
The work ethic, the lack of compromise, the commitment, the rebellious streak, the melodic sensibility. His vision of how rock bands were supposed to sound and behave on stage.
They were the greatest live band I've ever seen.
He may always be the most underrated songwriter of the genre in any era.
I'm glad I got to see him front row, and meet some of his people. Glad I got to have his drummer on two tracks on Postcards in Real Time, and record my guitar parts with Tom's pick from the Lucca Italy gig. Glad that Mike Campbell humoured me with the Unquiet Nights badge when I was probably being annoying. Glad Tom Petty existed to shape popular music as he did.

Second album recording is finished, just a few more songs to get their mix/master and we're done. Here's some video of working out guitar parts to "Destiny Does The Splitstep", and then a clip of the finished master of "Greatest Revival", with some visuals by a curious bull who was licking the windows and watching TV while we were recording. He disapproves of me eating meaty sandwiches.
Something fantastic. "GEORGE BEST CITY" is on Tom Robinson's BBC 6 Music Introducing Mixtape. Tom has supported us since early on, having "Someone's Love on Drugs" on his show in Oct 2012.
Thanks very kindly to him, the true supporter of new music that he is.
Another triumph for #TeamEssentialCredential.

".....Born in Belfast but bred in Italy, Unquiet Nights take another huge leap forward with their new single. Sounding assured and stately, the song is swathed in atmospheric synths as singer/guitarist Luke Mathers delivers one of his most impassioned performances to date. Conjuring up a sound that's like the Gin Blossoms jamming with the Jesus and Mary Chain, it's an anthemic offering from the three-piece....."
